This study attempts to illuminate how zones of damage induced beneath a non-breaching impact on Europa could facilitate surface-to-subsurface transport of materials. We explore how small impacts can create extended networks of damaged ice beneath craters and in the surrounding ice shell, which may allow surface oxidants to mix and exchange with Europa’s subsurface ocean.
